ABOUT

Sophia Malik is a British architect working across heritage, bamboo material culture, and contemporary spatial design. Her work focuses on the restoration and adaptive reuse of historic environments in northwest Saudi Arabia, with an emphasis on cultural continuity, site-specific identity, and natural material practices.

She studied hybrid bamboo–earth construction with Yasmeen Lari and the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan, exploring how vernacular building logics can inform regenerative futures. Sophia holds an M.Phil in Architecture & Urban Design from the University of Cambridge, where her thesis Heritage Not Inherited examined material memory and community-rooted design.

In 2022, she was awarded the Kenzo Parfums x BambooU Scholarship to further her research on bamboo architecture in Bali. She has taught studio at Central Saint Martins and was recognised as a RIBA Rising Star 2023.

Her work centers on architecture as a living cultural environment—where place, craft, and memory shape contemporary spatial identity.
